| Artist Statement My current body of work, Where Time Goes, is inspired by words, memories, and thought processes: how does one focus on the present moment if mind and memory often slip into past reminisces? Are thoughts about the past useful, harmful, benign? These works are my response to such meditations that I offer to the viewer - they are explorations of the boundaries between interior and exterior worlds. I paint these images concurrently over a period of days or weeks, adding layers as I work. I draw my inspiration from walks on the beach, life experiences, and poems by Anne Sexton, William Stafford, Sheenagh Pugh, Bill Holm, and many others. I invite the viewer to contemplate the impermanence and splendor of existence. Wonder that one may not exist without the other. |
