The Beating Heart Series is a collection of work that focuses on the fragility of life, and the series was inspired by the emotional impact of surviving a traumatic accident. Inspiration for the series comes from the human heart, as well as the brain, blood, and other life-giving elements.

The works are completed using various media, including acrylic, charcoal, oil stick, and pen on vellum paper. Vigorous gestural marks create a feeling of immediacy and emotional turmoil. However, there is also a sense of delicacy created in the details and careful layering of works like “Dark Dreams,” “Life Blood,” and “Poetry on a Cave Wall.”

Rage, fear, calm, acceptance, and gratitude are all elements woven through the emotional fabric of the work. The viewer journeys from hopelessness to hope, from turmoil to calm, and then back again, while looking at this series.
